You’d think it would be easy enough, wouldn’t you? To breathe.
Well there’s breathing and there’s breathing and I don’t mean the smutty kind!
If you stop whatever it is you’re doing, right now, like a freeze frame and observe yourself, what do you feel? Is there tension in your fingers, shoulders, face?
Relax a mo. Drop those shoulders, loosen that grip, and un-tighten your face, particularly that jaw. Now breathe and take it deeper. A slow 7/11 is good – in for 7 / out for 11. Do you find yourself back in your body? Decelerate the counting some more and breathe down into your feet.
Better?

So, I did as you said and relaxed myself, and it made SUCH a difference. I do a bit of Yoga, so am used to deep, steady breathing and it works wonders for wellbeing.
Yes – it does. I should have expanded the post really, and probably will. It’s getting into the habit of proper breathing – very powerful -it and yoga is fabulous for that. Thanks x
A lovely reminder – so much power in the breath – I know that my breathing is something I need to concentrate a lot more on – some considered breath work – my breathing can be too shallow at times, and then I become stressed. X.
Yes, it is indeed very powerful and that will be my next topic. They’re like a vicious cycle – stress = shallow breathing and shallow breathing = stress. Wish I could practise what I preach!
Well said that woman. Breathing is so important x
Thank you that woman! Glad to have your endorsement, Liska. X
You are so right, it is so easy to overlook such as simple thing as stopping to breathe, but it makes such a difference. When I am stressed I often find myself forgetting to breathe much or taking only shallow breaths, so I stop and remind myself to take a few big deep breathes and it is always amazing the impact that it has.
Yes, it’s such a simple thing but transformational, nevertheless!
What a simple but effective excercise, I feel so much clearer and ready to deal with my day!
That’s good – and you can take it with you anywhere, any time. It’s particularly useful in the car, or when settling the children down!
